Coach Pathway
BC Soccer Coaching & Certification Pathway | Coaching and Certification continues to be a major priority for our club.
Coaches play an extremely important role in the support and development of our players, therefore coach education and certification continues to be a major priority.
Our Coaches are the face of our club and our most important resource. Coaching can be very rewarding and whether you are new to soccer or are an experienced player, our goal is to offer our coaches the resources required to make their coaching experience rewarding. We offer Certification and Coach-the-Coach clinics to give coaches on-field experience. Plus, we will continue to add resources to these pages to help you be effective in your coaching. Good coaching is as much about organization and enthusiasm as it is about athleticism.
Patience, enthusiasm and love are your most powerful tools in coaching, so bring lots of both to the pitch.
This Coach Pathway image provides a visual overview of the minimum certification requirements for the various levels of play.

Coach Equipment
At CVUSC, we are dedicated to providing players with the necessary equipment to ensure a safe and enjoyable soccer experience.
Coaches receive their equipment at the start of the season and are responsible for its care and return.
Click below to find out more info on what the Club supplies and your responsibility as a Coach.
Coaches will be supplied with a variety of equipment, which may vary depending on the age group they are coaching. Some of the items provided include a waterproof bin containing a first aid kit, pinnies, a ball pump, and, in some cases, goalie gloves and goalie jerseys. Coaches will also receive a bag of balls (with the size appropriate for the age group), a set of cones, and, in some cases, a set of pug nets.
Coaches are responsible for collecting their team’s equipment package at the beginning of the season and returning all items promptly at season’s end.
Equipment should be stored securely and maintained in good condition throughout the season.
Any damaged, lost, or missing equipment must be reported to the Operations Manager as soon as possible.
Coaches are expected to maintain an inventory of all equipment issued to their team.
If your equipment has been damaged or worn out please contact our Operations Manager for a replacement(s).
Coaches should contact the Club's Operations Manager for assistance if they are looking for additional equipment.
For any equipment related inquiries or to report issues with your equipment, please reach out to our Operations Manager, Naomi at naomi@cvucs.org

Criminal Record Checks (CRC)
Keeping things safe, one background check at a time
At the Comox Valley United Soccer Club, the safety and well-being of our players is our top priority. As part of our commitment to create a safe and supportive environment for everyone, all coaches, assistant coaches, team managers, division managers, and any other volunteers or staff working directly with youth are required to complete a Criminal Record Check (CRC).
This policy aligns with our club's values and the standards set by our governing sports bodies. Criminal Record Checks must be completed prior to the start of each season and renewed every 3 years.
Any person who is working with youth is required to have a cleared CRC on file at the Club. Some examples may include but not limited to:
- Head Coaches
- Assistant Coaches
- Team Managers
- Division Managers
- Any adult interacting with players
BC Soccer requires that all volunteers have a current criminal record check (CRC) and that it must be re-done every three years.
The process has changed, and we no longer go through the RCMP as many of you have done in the past. Your name and email address will be entered into the BC Government Criminal Record Check online system. From there, you will receive an email with instructions to follow.
To get started with your Criminal Record Check, please reach out to our Risk Management Officer, Naomi, at naomi@cvusc.org. After your name and contact information are entered into the BC Government Criminal Record Check system, you’ll receive an email directly from them with instructions on how to complete your check.
No payment is required. If you need to go to the RCMP office for fingerprints or don’t have the correct documentation, we’ll provide you with a signed letter from the club so you won’t have to pay any fees.
The process can take anywhere from a day or two to several months. A few factors can cause delays. Occasionally, individuals are randomly selected and required to visit an RCMP office to provide fingerprints. At other times, the system may be overloaded with Criminal Record Check requests, which can also result in delays.
Generally, you will not be contacted. However, there are a few reasons why we might reach out:
- Your Criminal Record Check has not yet been completed.
- You were required to provide fingerprints, and we need to check that the process is moving forward.
- Your Criminal Record Check has expired or is no longer valid.
If you have any questions or need assistance with the process, please contact our Risk Management Officer Naomi at naomi@cvusc.org.
