Fields

Where Fun Meets the Field

Comox Valley United Soccer Club (CVUSC) is committed to providing a safe playing environment for our Players and Coaches. The Club also wants to protect the quality and longevity of the fields.

The below info outlines how field closures are determined and enforced.

To find field locations and to see if a field is open or closed check out our Field Status page.

How a field is determined closed?

Field closures are determined solely by the Club’s facility partners and/or the municipalities responsible for field maintenance. CVUSC will comply with all field closures issued by these authorities.

Why would a field become closed?

Fields may be closed for, but are not limited to, the following reasons:

  • Standing water
  • Snow or frost
  • Unsafe surface conditions
  • Excessive wear and tear
  • Scheduled maintenance or repairs
What happens when a field is closed?

Once a field is officially closed:

  • No games, practices, or training sessions may take place.
  • Fields will remain closed until facility staff officially reopen them.
  • If a field is closed on a Friday, it will remain closed for the entire weekend, regardless of improved weather conditions.
How is a practice canceled?

CVUSC does not routinely cancel practices due to weather unless a field has been officially closed by a community partner.

The decision to cancel a practice lies with:

  • Your PDL team staff
  • Your VYSL Division Managers along with team coaches.

Team staff are expected to make safety-conscious decisions based on field conditions.

What to do if the weather turns during a practice or game?

If a field is officially open but weather deteriorates:

For Practices:
Teams are responsible for assessing field conditions before/during use. Unsafe conditions (e.g., snow, ice, pooling water) must be treated as unplayable.

If a thunder/lighting storm turns up in the area, practices must be cancelled.

For Games:
Referees retain the authority to cancel or abandon games on-site if field conditions are deemed unsafe for play, regardless of official field status.

The Referee is responsible for assessing field conditions before/during use or if the weather turns and is unsafe to play.

If you have any questions or concerns about a field please contact our field scheduler, Naomi at naomi@cvusc.org.

Field Line Painting

Line painting is one of the most essential behind-the-scenes roles in the club. It keeps our fields looking sharp, professional, and ready for action.

This role runs throughout the soccer season, from August through June, with varying fields needing paint depending on the month. It involves painting the field lines before game days to ensure everything is clearly marked and safe for play.

We typically would like to have 3 dedicated line painters to help with the season and to allow for flexibility.

Here’s what’s involved:

Frequency: Typically once a week (weather dependent)

Timing: Flexible—mornings, evenings, whenever works for you!

Training: No experience needed—we’ll show you how

Compensation: Choose to volunteer your time or take this on as a paid subcontracted role

If you have any questions or want to chat about the role to see if this might be a good fit for you, reach out to Naomi at naomi@cvusc.org.

Volunteers

Be Part of the Team Behind the Scenes!

Hey there, soccer family! Our club isn’t just about games and goals, it’s about the people who make it all happen. That’s where you come in.

Volunteering is a great way to connect, give back, and be part of something special. Whether you have a little time or a lot, your help means the world to us.

Here are the key times we could really use your support:

Before each season kicks off – August & March

VYSL Wind-up Day – end of each seasons last day

Inventory Days – November & June
Sort, count and store gear so we're prepped for the next season

To sign up to volunteer please email Naomi at naomi@cvusc.org. Just a quick email. Every bit of support helps keep our club running smoothly.

We will send out a confirmation email to the volunteers ahead of time to confirm days and times.

Before each season kicks off

Before each soccer season kicks off, a lot of behind-the-scenes work goes into getting everything game-ready. Balls are pumped and sorted into ball bags, team bins are organized and labeled, jerseys are sorted into teams, nets are put on the goals, and fields are prepared by stringing and painting fresh lines.

Help is always welcome! Whether it’s for one task or multiple tasks every bit helps.

VYSL Wind-up day

Wind-up day is all about wrapping up the season. We always need volunteers to help with handing out treats, collecting all equipment from the teams, disassembling old bins, or making new ones, it’s a fast-paced and busy day. It’s a rewarding way to celebrate the season and get your steps in!

Inventory Days

Inventory days take place over multiple days and focus on counting and sorting everything needed for the next season. This includes training tops, jerseys and kits, first aid kits, goalie gear, referee gear, balls, cones, nets, and all other essential equipment.

It’s a detailed process, but also a nice way to socialize, get involved, and ensure everything is ready to go when the new season begins.

If you have any questions or want to chat about what might be a good fit for you, reach out to Naomi at naomi@cvusc.org.

Thanks for being part of our amazing soccer community.
